Healthcare Outreach in Turkana
In the vast arid lands of Turkana, healthcare is often out of reach for thousands of nomadic families. With the nearest clinic sometimes hundreds of kilometers away, even basic treatment can mean a life-or-death journey.
The Healthcare Outreach in Turkana program was launched to bridge this critical gap. Partnering with local health authorities and community leaders, our mobile clinics bring essential medical services to the heart of remote villages.
Each outreach mission includes trained nurses, clinical officers, and health educators equipped with diagnostic tools, vaccines, and basic medications. Services offered include immunizations, prenatal care, treatment for common illnesses, malnutrition screening, and health education sessions.
A strong focus is placed on maternal and child health, given the region’s high infant and maternal mortality rates. Pregnant mothers are provided with antenatal checkups, nutrition packs, and delivery preparedness education.
We also work closely with traditional birth attendants and community health volunteers, offering them training and supplies to ensure consistent care long after the mobile units leave.
Since inception, the initiative has served over 2,000 individuals, resulting in increased vaccination coverage, reduced preventable disease outbreaks, and improved awareness of hygiene and nutrition practices.
This program has become a vital lifeline for Turkana’s nomadic communities—proving that with commitment and community partnerships, even the most remote populations can receive dignified and consistent healthcare.
